Martell has been shipping its cognac to the United States since 1783, but this is the first time they have sent us cognac that has finished aging in ex-bourbon casks. The subtle and nuanced notes of plums and rich red fruits that are always present in a good bottle of Martell are now accompanied with a lovely hint of vanilla and toasty oak from the bourbon barrels. We think it’s a delicious combination, and one that might convince bourbon drinkers to gain an appreciation of cognac and vice-versa.
